What is your name?
What were you doing before you started at CrossFit Outwork?
“A little bit of running.”
What made you decide to start CrossFit?
“I wanted to start a new healthy lifestyle. I had trained years ago doing kickboxing, but I wanted to do something different. I went in for my introductory session and really liked the look of CrossFit Outwork.”
Did you have any concerns/fears at first?
“I didn’t think that I would be able to do a lot of the movements, or that I would be fit enough.”
How did that change once you became a member?
“Straight away I was shown that all the workouts could be tailored to my ability, and that I wasn’t expected to be able to do everything right away. I’ve learned that with both training and nutrition, it is a process of gradual improvement over weeks and months.”
What were your goals when you first started?
“To lose weight, improve my body shape, to get fitter and find something that would make positive changes to my life inside and outside of the gym.”
What are your goals now?
“I want to improve on the gymnastics movements, as these are what I have found to be the biggest challenge. I plan to train harder and be more consistent with my nutrition, to help me become as fit as I can be.”
What’s it like being a member at Outwork?
“It is genuinely awesome, and I feel lucky to have such a great place to train. The coaches are really friendly, unbelievably knowledgeable, and the other members are all really nice people, which creates a really good atmosphere in the box. I love the fact that no two workouts are the same, and it never gets boring as we do such a variety of different exercises.”
What have been some of your favourite moments from the last 2 years?
“I really enjoyed the Friday night events during the CrossFit Games Open, the atmosphere is brilliant. Also the summer BBQ in August was a great day during my first year as a member, I was gutted when I couldn’t make it to the last one!”
What are some of your favourite workouts?
“I enjoy the longer ones, like the hero WODs. Workouts where you have to dig deep and tap into reserves of mental strength to get through it. Now that I have improved my technique with a barbell, I really enjoy lifting weights too.
How has doing CrossFit impacted your life outside the gym?
“CrossFit has massively improved my physical and mental well-being. I sleep and eat so much better now than I used to, as I have picked up so many good habits during my time here. I genuinely can’t imagine a time when I won’t be doing CrossFit. My daughter has recently started the in teens class, so it has been great to get a family member involved and get them into a fit and healthy lifestyle at such a young age.”
