What is your name?
What were you doing before you started at CrossFit Outwork?
“Sam had been my personal trainer for a number of years, so when he opened Outwork I became one of the first members. Before doing CrossFit my training consisted mostly of running, football and free weights.”
What made you decide to start CrossFit?
“As my goal was to get fitter, Sam began to implement CrossFit workouts into our PT sessions. I was seeing good results, and wanted to keep that up.”
Did you have any concerns/fears at first?
“I have always been pretty active playing and coaching football so I was used to exercising and attending gyms, though a lot of the exercises were things I had never done before.”
How did that change once you became a member?
“The coaches gave me plenty of guidance on technique, which helped me feel more confident with the new exercises.”
What were your goals when you first started?
“My goal at first was to lose some excess weight. Over a period of 18 months I lost just over 2 stone.”
What are your goals now?
“My goals now are to improve on the results I have achieved so far, and to learn more about exercise technique. I also want to learn more about how the role food plays in what I want to achieve.”
What’s it like being a member at Outwork?
“It’s great fun, a good mix of people of all ages and abilities. There is a great community here at Outwork, everyone is really friendly.”
What have been some of your favourite moments from the last 2 years?
“Some of my favourite moments have been during the CrossFit Games Open, there is a great atmosphere in the box during those events. I’ve also just really enjoyed the support from the coaching team in helping me reach my goals.”
What are some of your favourite workouts?
“I like the benchmark workouts, as they’re an opportunity to see how much you’ve improved.”
How has doing CrossFit impacted your life outside the gym?
“Being a member at Outwork has had a positive impact on my life as well as those around me. People have noticed the difference in me, and I have been able to pass on some of the things I have learned to the boys I coach. I love to know I’m making a difference in their lives, and want to do for them what CrossFit has done for me.”
